CURRNT E10 LAWS

State-by-State Ethanol Labeling Laws - Does your state require gas pump labeling when ethanol is added to fuel?

U.S. PETROLEUM IMPORTS

Visit EIA (Energy Information Administration of the U.S. Government) for extensive and shocking statistics, which support the severe dependency the United States has on foreign oil imports to meet our daily gasoline/energy use.

The EIA prepares and publishes the Official Energy Statistics from the U.S. Government.
VIEW WEBSITE: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/info_glance/petroleum.html

In 2008, the United States imported 70% of our petroleum oil, up from about 10-20% in the 1970's.

The U.S. imports almost 10 MILLION barrels per DAY of oil...

In May 2008, over 1.5 million barrels/day were imported from Saudia Arabia...

Included in the Top15 list of countires the U.S. imports from are:
Saudia Arabia, Nigeria, Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Libya, Russia, Venezuela...

"ACE Coalition Formally Petitions EPA to Allow up to 15 Percent Ethanol in Gasoline".
- View Notice -

Without public opposition allowable alcohol content in gasoline will increase to 15%.

Conventional Engine Manufacturers ONLY Approve of up to 10% Ethanol.
It is obvious that the waiver submitted to the EPA for a 5% increase is a last ditch effort by the ethanol producers to push ethanol any way they can, without any consideration for the expense and damage it will cause your typical consumer and conventional engine owner.

Those submitting the waiver (ACE, Progress Energy and ethanol producers) embarked on a massive campaign to get petitions in support of E15 sent to the EPA.  We believe the E15 request is primarily to compensate for the failures of the E85 (flex fuel) plan in the U.S. over the past decade.

At least E85 is a gasoline replacement that helps to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but E15 offers no benefits except to profit the ethanol industry.

E15 increase will negatively affect ALL types of engines, autos, motorcycles, boats, lawn and gas-powered equipment, generators...

It is shocking that the EPA may allow ethanol content to increase to 15% despite knowing all engine manufacturers only approve of up to 10%.

Government subsidized ethanol could have offered benefits as a transitional fuel replacement (E85). The biggest failure of the E85 plan was lack of public education to encourage switch to flex fuel vehicles. Despite large grants offered to gas retailers to install E85 pumps, many resisted because they did not see a market for a specialty flex fuel.
Instead, most areas started adding ethanol to conventional gasoline (E10) to meet renewable fuel standards, quotas and mandates.

With minimal oversight and regulations to protect consumers, gas retailers soon realized they could profit from ethanol blending tax credits simply by adding "extra" ethanol to all gas sold.  Many ignored the precautions necessary to prevent ethanol from absorbing water into gas.
Some did not even prepare storage tanks, as required, before switching to E10. Since several states do not even require gas pump labeling (when ethanol added), many consumers were not even aware gas now contained alcohol until after engine damage occurred.
With contaminated E10 becoming more prevalent, consumers are being turned-off to everything ethanol.

The EPA is certain to lose the public's trust and confidence if they allow sale of E15, a fuel type not approved by all conventional engine manufacturers.  Why would the EPA even review this E15 application? The only conclusion I could reach is that it's time to accept that ethanol has nothing to do with the benefits it may offer (gas replacement & pollution control), it has simply become a scam lead by lobbyists seeking unearned profits at the expense of consumers.
